GEICO’s Facilities team is seeking a Senior Operating Engineer to act as lead worker to engineering and maintenance staff under minor supervision in our Virginia Beach facility.

Essential Functions of this position include:

- Demonstrated  involvement with the engineering, maintenance, and day-to-day operations of the facility.
- Maintaining departmental maintenance records.
- Training lower level operating engineers and mechanics to operate and maintain the building equipment.
- Assigning and monitoring preventive maintenance on building equipment.
- Ordering and maintaining supplies and spare parts for building equipment repair and service.
- Assisting in coordinating the installation of electrical receptacles, PC cabling, phone cabling and office equipment.
- Coordinating movement of associates’ furniture and equipment throughout the building.
- Producing and writing method and procedures (MAP) for engineering equipment.

Working conditions and requirements of this position include:

- Must be able to work emergency situations in inclement weather and be available for overtime as needed.
- Must wear and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
- Must be willing to perform in indoor and outdoor environments, subject to adverse weather conditions and noise.
- Must be willing to work in areas covered by brush and trees or in trenches and where footing is poor and the ground is uneven or wet.
- Must be able to work on and around mechanized equipment and be alert and abide by safety precautions.
- Must be willing to work on ladders, structures and equipment.
- Must be willing to work with energized conductors and equipment rated from low to medium voltages.
- The work requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Materials, equipment, etc. will be lifted to and from trucks, equipment, warehouse shelves and the ground.
- Work activities involve combinations of walking, kneeling, climbing, pulling, bending, lifting, carrying and standing for extended periods.
- The work requires the ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet and structures and lifts up to 45 feet; to climb on, off and around trucks, scaffolds and other equipment.
- The work requires the ability to operate tools, equipment, vehicles and machinery.
- The work requires the ability to work in limited light; and to differentiate colors.
- The work requires the ability to answer questions and communicate with coworkers, customers and others in person, via email, telephones and mobile radios.
- The work requires the ability to see and hear in order to detect problems and ensure the safety of employees and others.
- 2nd Class/Journeyman licensed building engineer in accordance with state regulations.
- Requires licenses and permits to be maintained in accordance with state regulations.
- 10 years’ experience in the HVAC and R field.
- Experience with Trane equipment preferred.
- Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record according to company policy and a valid state driver's license.
- The job may require driving and operating vehicles such as an automobile, pickup truck, van, ATV, aerial man-lift and forklift. The forklift and man-lift operation require prior certification.
- The job requires the operation of test equipment for meters and may require fault location and other electrical equipment.
- The job requires the use of computers and calculators.
- Future work practices may necessitate the use of different equipment, vehicles and tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
