GEICO’s Virginia Beach Facilities team is seeking a Lead Porter to provide lead support to porters, maintain facilities, and monitor incoming and outgoing janitorial supplies and equipment with close supervision.

Essential functions of this position include:

- Providing porter services to include cleaning and servicing the building, furniture, fixtures, and lavatories.
- Leading and providing expertise to contracted porter staff and fill in as needed during their absence.
- Cleaning facilities, trash, cigarette receptacles etc., near trash compactor or dumpster area as necessary.
- Keeping track of janitorial supplies and ordering more as required to ensure an adequate supply to service the facility.
- Servicing and cleaning out facility refrigerators on a weekly basis.
- Sweeping and treating grease or oil spots in parking lot/garage.
- Performing snow removal or debris pickup on the building grounds and adjacent walkways.
- Preserving grounds by picking up trash, fallen limbs, and keeping drains free of debris.
- Responding to building emergencies and taking action as directed.

Requirements and working conditions of this position include:

 

- The work requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Objects will be lifted to and from trucks, equipment, warehouse shelves and the ground.
- Work activities involve combinations of walking, kneeling, climbing, pulling, bending, lifting, carrying and standing for extended periods.
- The work requires the ability to climb ladders up to 10 feet and to climb on, off and around trucks, scaffolds and other equipment.
- The work requires the ability to operate tools, equipment and machinery.
- The work requires the ability to work in limited sight and to differentiate colors.
- The work requires the ability to answer questions and communicate with coworkers, customers, and others in person, via email, telephones and mobile radios.
- Must be able to work emergency situations in inclement weather and be available for overtime as needed.
- Must wear and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
- Must be willing to perform in indoor and outdoor environments, subject to adverse weather conditions and noise.
- Must be willing to work in areas covered by brush and trees or in trenches and where footing is poor and the ground is uneven or wet.
- Must be willing to work on ladders, structures, and equipment.

- High school diploma or equivalent required
